624 Million Yuan Received By China Red Cross Within 3 Days
According to China Times, within the first three days of the earthquake, the China Red Cross had received donation over 624 Million Yuan (RMB).
How did you hear about the quake?
"As the first wave of shocks receded, Chinese and foreign residents across the country reached for the closest broadcast tools at hand, their cell phones and computers. Providing first-hand accounts of the earthquake and its immediate effects were thousands of “tweets”—blog entries posted to the Internet via text message. On QQ and MSN, two massively popular instant message services in China, friends traded second-by-second updates."I first learned the news after I read my brother's blog in Google Reader. That was half hour after he wrote the post. He felt the quake over 900 miles away in Beijing.

PKU Alumni Joint Call for China Earthquake Relief (Newsletter)
May 13th, 2008
Dear Peking University Alumni:
A massive earthquake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale, rocked Wenchuan County of China's Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008, resulting in a death toll of more than 14,000, many more injuries, and tremendous economic loss. The powerful quake flattened many school buildings in the disaster area, killing and injuring numerous school children and teachers.
While the Chinese government and the whole nation are mobilized to help the people in the disaster area, many PKU alumni and friends in the USA are asking PKUEF (USA) to give their support, and some of them have already sent in their donations. The Peking University Education Foundation (USA) has initiated a special Fund Raising Program for the middle and primary schools in the disaster area in China. All donations will be transferred to benefit schools within a month.
